Just back from delivering zero hour at the splendid B works in Manchester. This venue brings the chic New York high-line experience to the centre of the world’s first industrial city; providing an ubercool setting for our business SME and entrepreneurs ‘zero carbon by 2038’ discussions.
Six months have elapsed since Manchester announced world leading ambition for 2038 and a series of seemingly endless consultations, punctuated by a slick conference. led today’s attendees to question the rate of progress and Manchester’s commitment to its own world leading aspirations. I was at a conference in Scotland where Edinburgh and especially Glasgow threw down the down the gantlet and said they meet the same target by 2030 – effectively pushing Manchester further down the pecking order..
The entrepreneurs and nascent low carbon supply chain businesses who came along today are determined their voices will be heard. With parliament declaring a climate emergency and children on the streets they are keen to build the local supply chain which is integral to the realisation of Manchester’s plan
